RAIL TRAIL
IN
BEAVER COUNTY, PA
Fellow Outdoor Enthusiasts:
Even though our Web Site is
currently Under Construction, The Beaver River Rails to Trails Association (BRRTA)
invites you to check back for updates on the first Rail Trail in Beaver County,
PA.
BRRTA was awarded grants for
Phase I and II of the Beaver River Trail. Phase
I consists of a spur line of the old Pittsburgh & Lake Erie
Railroad that has been converted into a trail suitable for biking, hiking and walking.
Groundbreaking ceremonies for Phase I of the trail
occurred on June 17, 2005, 10:00am, 1st Avenue and 11th Street, Beaver
Falls, PA
The trail runs northward along the Beaver River from
approximately Eleventh Street to 23rd Street in the City of Beaver Falls.
This section of the trail is open and available for use.
Ribbon cutting ceremonies to
mark the Official opening of the trail will take place April 29, 2006, 11:00AM
at the First Avenue and 11th Street Trailhead.
Under
the second phase of the project, approximately 3,500 feet of abandoned rail bed
owned by Geneva College will extend
the trail from approximately 28th street north toward the Beaver
River, ending at the equivalent of 37th street, the north edge of the
College property.
The Association is
committed to linking the Beaver River Trail to established and proposed trails
in adjacent western Pennsylvania counties and into Ohio.
To the north, BRRTA plans to connect to
the existing Stavich and North Country Trails in Lawrence County and to the
south, the Montour Trail in
Allegheny County. Our ultimate goal
is to link the Beaver River Trail with Erie and the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal
Trail to Washington D.C. Phases
I and II when completed will have access to these trails along the Bicycle PA route
until further trails are constructed.
